Mad World

"He who hides a dark soul, walks in darkness under the sun. He his own dungeon." -Milton

August 29, 2009 3:17 AM

Working hard right now on pages for CGX. Opened up a work studio in downtown Palm Springs, California. Lots of good stuff going on. Much new work coming down the pipeline. Will post it up soon. I recently added a photography set-up to the studio and plan to use it as much as possible along with a venture into canvas paintings. Recently had some fun in the studio with the new light rigs and threw together a silly video for your amusement. So, here it is, King G - Death and the 11 Herbs and Spices.

April 6, 2009 7:03 PM - So, gearing up for the west coast conventions coming up. Nearing the end of my first issue with CGX. The work is coming along great and can't wait to see it finished. When that happens I will have some stuff to show off here I hope. Until then you can keep up with what I'm working on on my facebook page. If you don't have facebook get an account, it's rediculously addictive, and I'll be your first friend there, haha. There's a link to my profile on the left of this page! I have also added some work to my gallery on this site. Enjoy. -WES.

March 26, 2009 8:36 PM - You may be wondering at this point, "did Wes just give up on this site or what?" No, I am hard at work on a 4-issue story with the guys from CGX, issue one is almost finished and should have a lot to share with you soon. You can keep up with a lot of my work via my Facebook profile, as I update that quite a bit. I will be making some adjustments to the Gallery section of the site today, to incorperate some new work and make it a little easier to view, so check it out, and I'll be posting up work from my new project as soon as possible. -WES

January 22, 2009 2:07 AM - Okay, so Yeah, I've been avoiding updating this page. Why you ask? I have something big on the horizon for you, loyal reader. Something HUGE! And when I know exactly how much I can reveal right now, YOU will be the first to know.

Until that point I have a few, totally unrelated, pieces I've been working up here and there I'd like to share with you. I hope this calms your horrible appetite for a moment at least. I'll be back soon with more goodies for you and remember, I'm always available on my facebook profile (link on the bottom left) -WES

I hope this is good for now ;)))

Charnel House #1 Now shipping from London to the United Kingdom!

November 9, 2008 3:33 PM - Through my association with Broken Voice Comics, Charnel House is available to residents of the UK at a great rate. Shipping to the UK is currently $5.00 USD and ships by post directly from London. This is a great thing because getting the book to individuals overseas is a giant obstacle. I'm glad to be able to offer CH to the UK readers!

Also, just working out my obsession with cross-hatching, here's a pic of Detective Faragher from The Fugue State. I may get this colored and use it as a pin-up in CH2. Thanks for reading, Cheers! WES.

Det. Faragher, sad, sad, Faragher.

Scary Faragher!!!

Enter The Rat!!!

October 26, 2008 10:46 PM - Here's the second of two images I am doing for Tom Fedex and his band Noggin Fogger. Their song is called "Enter the Rat!!!" I like this image in particular because I was using a lot of painting tequniques I don't often get to use doing sequentials. And the little guy is damn cute (the RAT, not Tom FedEX.) Anyway, one more project down that I have to do before penciling again. I will display all that stuff here as it gets finished. Here for your enjoyment.

Mov'in on up!

October 22, 2008 1:44 AM - Have been away from Ch for about a month. Trying to pound some square pegs into round holes with some other projects I have. Really trying to just clear the cache of other things so I can get back to working on sequentials. I have some band artwork posted up on my facebook profile if you have me as a buddy there. If not, then add me for the love of Pete! Will have more to post about as we get closer to Christmas. Here's a sample of one of the band artwork. It's for my friend's band Noggin Fogger. Look them up on Itunes. Okeey-dokee. G'night.

Noggin Fogger. Look them up on Itunes!

Charnel House is out and bad-to-the bone!

September 26, 2008 2:08 AM - CH1 looks really great. I was very pleased with the print quality in the book. The colors and detail are very crisp. 52 pages makes a fatty book. Can barely stuff it in a poly-bag! Have been reading a lot of scripts and think CH2 is gonna be freaking great.

Static Multimedia Magazine.

September 14, 2008 5:49 AM - Since The Fugue State became available at Literate Machine .com I've been very fortunate to get the exposure that I have. They've made available this full story to many people who otherwise may have not had a chance to check it out. The Fugue State is the fourth story in Charnel House #1 and one of my favorites. If you haven't taken advantage of this free download, please do. Click here to go to the Literate Machine page.

In the way of exposure, Literate Machine also brought me the oppurtunity to be featured in Static Magazine, from Static Multimedia .com. Their article featured the three favorite artists from Literate Machine. I was very proud to be considered among them. Click here to see the magazine. The article starts on page 27. I'm very pleased with my experience there and hope you check out all that www.literatemachine.com has to offer. Scene from The Fugue State.

Welcome to the mother-f'kin collective...

Locutus of BORG!!!

August 25, 2008 11:38 PM - I often go on YouTube to see music videos. Since MTV turned to complete crap many years ago, YouTube seems to be the only good place to find new videos. I started looking at acoustic covers. The fact that we can all be so connected that hundreds of people can put together acoustic versions of their favorite songs and share them with everyone else on the planet really blows my mind. It got me thinking about the current state of comics and graphic art. The popularity of webcomics, and how people from all over the world can meet and start collaborating within days, or even minutes. A flood of talented people are out there.

With the ease of sharing these works there is the potential for work that wasn't even possible 10 years ago to gain some notoriety. These great new advantages and new obstacles have put the comics and graphic novel industry into a completely new enviroment, just as the internet has done to the music industry.

The major publishers have taken notice. This can be seen clearly as they have all turned to some form of Dot-Comics and comic download subscriptions. I'd like to think that this would open up the oppurtunity for unknowns to get some of the pie, but ultimately, it doesn't. Quality work rising to the top of the indy pile is as hard as getting into a decent portfolio review, or even having a major publisher look at your work. So, here I sit, wondering how to take full advantage of these new devices and how to avoid all the new pitfalls. The one thing that I'm sure about is that I will force my product and work to just be better in quality. I think that goes a long way, if it's consistent. I don't know if that's enough but at least I'll feel good about it.

So while I think more about this I'll leave you with a gem I found on YouTube tonight. Enjoy.

50 Cent - Ayo Technology (acoustic cover by Milow)

Charnel House was released today, from my hands like a white dove.

August 11, 2008 1:18 AM - Wow that's corny. Though I did send off the files to the printer today. The whole thing looks really good, and to have it out of my hands now after all this time feels really good. I am glad to see the response so far has been really positive. Pre-orders and just a general interest in the book have really boosted the moral around here. I'm happy to show off the wicked front and back cover for the book:

Charnel House #1 Cover
Cover of Charnel House #1. Pencil and ink - Wes Huffor. Colors - Tom Smith. It really turned out the way I'd hoped.

Charnel House Back Cover - Matt Slay
Matt Slay sent this great painting to me just in the nick of time. This is the back cover of the book and looks really amazing.

Also the Charnel House website now has a functional community page, though not a lot has been put into it. If you feel like stopping by we can chitty-chat about the book or whatever. CH Community.

New Look for WesHuffor.com

July 20, 2008 3:13 PM - Blowing my brains out on new web designs and getting the book ready for the printer. If you've been to the site before You can see I've made a pretty drastic change to the layout. I've split weshuffor.com into four. Comic book art (here), Charnel House has it's own site now. One for non-comic artwork, pinups, motorcycle artwork, and just web design. The links are all at the top of each page so people can jump back and forth a bit, if they like. Believe it or not I have a few others in the planning stage but they are not really ready to be talked about yet. San Diego Comic-Con - July 20, 2008 2:20 PM - Well, SDCC is right around the corner. I'm relieved just be away from the day job for a while. Comic-Con will be fun. I'm going to try to relax and just enjoy it. I am bringing the prototype of Charnel House issue #1. Maybe I'll get a couple good tips before I send it off next week.May 22, 2008 It's funny really. The reason this site hasn't gotten as far along as it should be by now is that I've been spending all my time working on other websites. I have decided to break this site up into 3 seperate sites which will encompass all the different types of design that I do. So asap, several new sites will be up and linkable from here, that will showcase my web designs and other non-comic book related art.Sorry for the delay on new content. On the bright side, good news I have.Anna Weiszczyk and I collaborated again on the color version of Speakeasy. We had worked together on Mad World and I thought it was about time we did something new. so look forward to seeing that in the near future.Talk to you soon.WES.April 8, 2008 Well... Home page, Gallery, Comics >Sequential, and Books >published are pretty much all there. I am taking it piece by piece for now as I've been knocked out by Vicotin on the weekends after dental work and tired from regular work during the week. I still have a lot of pieces to dig up for the other art sections.Keep the faith.WES. April 3, 2008 So Everything is looking pretty good. I will enjoy having the blog back up soon. More updates tomarrow .March 30, 2008 Great news on the comic front. I have just recieved copies of the two most recent published work. Landslide (Gama Flores/Kevin Huff/Wes Huffor/Richard Nelson) was the winner of the Viper Comics 2008 talent search. It was printed in A Dummy's Guide to Danger: Lost at sea #1, and is available in shops and through online resources now. The whole book looks good, and I was proud to be a part of the whole thing. Also, Slam-Bang Anthology from Fanatic Press has also been released. I did the inks for "End of the World" For Rory McConville and Brent Giles. It's a great story and was lucky to be a part of it. March 29, 2008 Hello there. The website has been down for some time as I've been fiddling around with the code. Now I know I could have left the older version up while I worked on the new site. I like to start from scratch. So, here's the new look and functions of the site. Ihope you enjoy the new media interfaces, and more content. I'm really excited about getting some full story previews up and also a pretty comprehensive gallery page, which is already up. One thing that I can't stand is going to a website and none of the links work. Well, I'm here to tell you this site will be no different. I am adding pages in order, so many of the nav bar links are not connected yet. I should have at least some bit of content on every page within a week or two.

Bad Religion - American Jesus I don't need to be a global citizen Because i'm blessed by nationality I'm member of a growing populace We enforce our popularity There are things that Seem to pull us under And there are things That drag us down But there's a power And a vital presence That's lurking all around We've got the american Jesus See him on the interstate We've got the american Jesus He helped build the President's estate I feel sorry For the earth's population 'cuz so few Live in the U.S.A. I think that will definetley be looking nice once I get to the inks. The year is coming to an end and I will be printing soon all the stories I have worked on in 2007. I am working on producing pieces faster and as that improves I hope that each year will yield a larger and larger book. To date, it's looking to be about 50 pages. So that's pretty good. Maybe I will get to 70 or 80 next year. I am looking into different themes right now and haven't landed on one, but maybe soon I will have something there to report. Will keep you posted. Meantime, I go back to work tommarrow. Another 3 weeks and I'll take my last vacation this year. I am looking to have the book wrapped by halloween. After that I'll have to get a hobby or something. Have had a lot going on in the last month. I am currently working on The Fugue State, written by Dave "not Lesinger" Seliger. The pages are looking really nice, and have a few big name companies who expressed interest in it while I was at San Diego Comic-Con. That should be finished during this 3-day Labor Day weekend. I will definetly try to get a main page and photo gallery update to the the site before I go back to work on tuesday. Work is just lovely delivering packages in 116 degrees really takes all the energy out of ya, when you really want to work on something in the evenings. That, and I'm getting dental work every weekend 'til the end of the year.I will try to get on the ball and get everything up to date soon.Talk to ya later,WESPosted by WES at 22:40:31 | Permanent Link | Comments (0) | Tuesday, July 10, 2007Hmm... So I guess I will type something different now.San Diego Comic-con is right around the corner and I spent three paragraphs of an email describing to Mark Rush how cool it is. Now I'm excited to go there. I have a lot of projects in the can now. Landslide scripted by Kevin Huff. Mad World written by Mark Rush and The Fugue State written by Dave Lesinger should all be done 'round convention time. That's exciting to go to the show with that much new work to get feedback on.All that plus I'll get to hang out with Kenny Caid and Shaun Charney and it'll be like old times again, working on Galactic Comics. Let me find a picture to leave you with.......hmm, lolly.WES.Posted by WES at 23:47:02 | Permanent Link Friday, July 06, 2007Insomnia and somnombulance.I know that is going to sound like someone's pathetic poetry on a myspace bulletin.
