Sequentials

When you talk to editors and professionals there's really two things that are the standard. Storytelling and anatomy. Storytelling is the the whole point of comics. getting so involved in the characters plight that you forget it's a drawing altogether. A slight confusion in layout or delivery and you could totally lose the reader.

I really love that aspect of the medium. I always try to think in terms of how the film would play out. The camera angles and how they effect the story. It's pretty amazing that a slight adjustment to direction or lighting can make such a difference in the readers perception.

I thought about which story in the last year that I really focused on storytelling. There's always a different set of challenges when you are trying to draw out a scene. My first thought was Landslide which was done in a very backwards way. Drawn first, and then I started to look for a writer. That was a very cool thing. Kevin Huff (VA) ended up the script winner of that. and ultimately the story went on did pretty well. That's a great example but If you want to see how that all went down you can just HERE here and check them out on DW. The posts don't make a lot of sense now because I have since updated the links with the lettering.

So the story I picked out was The Fugue State. It had such visceral sequences and such a spectrum of emotions going on there it really was my favorite in terms of storytelling. Written by Dave Seliger. The story was finished with Beautiful watercolors by Matt Slay, and amazing lettering by Richard Nelson.

Enjoy,

WES.

Here's some of the crazy coloring and lettering that really pushed this one over the top for me. It's such a great finished piece.
